As a candidate for Congress in Mississippi’s 4th District, I, Carl Boyanton, strongly support implementing term limits for members of the U.S. Congress to restore accountability, reduce the influence of career politicians, and ensure fresh perspectives in our government. For too long, Washington has been dominated by lifelong insiders who prioritize special interests over the needs of everyday Americans. Term limits would break this cycle, encouraging public servants to focus on results rather than perpetual reelection campaigns.
Specifically, I advocate for a constitutional amendment limiting service in the House of Representatives to 12 years (six two-year terms) and in the Senate to 12 years (two six-year terms). This balanced approach allows elected officials enough time to gain expertise and achieve meaningful reforms while preventing the entrenchment of power that leads to corruption and stagnation. Twelve years strikes the right balance—long enough to make an impact, short enough to keep representatives connected to the real world.
If elected, I pledge to make this a top priority. I will personally reach out to every member of the House and Senate—regardless of party—to build bipartisan support for this critical reform. Mississippians deserve leaders who fight for change, not those who cling to power.
Together, we can reclaim our government for the people.
